Der Ober-Mooser See gehört zu den Mooser Teichen Teiche befinden sich im hessischen Mittelgebirge Vogelsberg auf dem Gebiet der Gemeinden Freiensteinau und Grebenhain.

Während der untere Nieder-Mooser See als Badesee genutzt wird, und der Rothenbachteich im Wald an drei Seiten eingewachsen ist mit entlangziehendem Wanderweg am freien Ufer.
Interessant zur Vogelbeobachtung ist der obere See an der Ortschaft Ober-Moos gelegen.
Man kann gleich am nördlichen Ortsanfang direkt am See parken (1) und den Damm mit den Fischteichen zur Linken entlang gehen, oder man fährt durch den Ort und hält am anderen Dammende (2). Auf dem Weg zur Beobachtungshütte (3) kommt man am ansonsten niedrig bewachsenen Ufer an eine fast frei einsichtbare Stelle, in der Limikolen sehr nahe gesehen werden können.
Von der Beobachtungshütte aus hat man unmittelbar vom Ufer aus einen guten Überblick.

Das Bild mit den Silberreihern finde ich aus folgenden Gründen interessant:
– in Afrika haben Silberreiher eher ganz schwarze Beine
– Asienmittelreiher / Mittelreiher Egretta intermedia (Yellow-billed Egret) zeigen diese gelben Oberbeine, aber wesentlich ausgeprägter.
– der Mittelreiher wird in europäischer Beschreibung ohne gelbe Oberbeine gezeigt… sehr seltsam, da die Mittelreiher im südlichen Afrika sehr ausgeprägt gelbe Oberbeine haben.
– der dicke Hals beim rechten Vogel (mir ist klar, dass der Vogel grad schluckt) hat meine Gedanken auch zu Mittelreiher geschoben…
ich müsste bei uns im südlichen Afrika genau schauen, ob es sich nicht um einen Mittelreiher handelt, obwohl Mittelreiher sehr gelbe Oberbeine haben. Ich frage mich, ob hier die Evolution in europäischen Vögeln wohl etwas gelb „übrig gelassen“ hat?
